Dear Blog Readers,

I realized that I haven't been writing anything to my blog. So, I decided to write what kind of stuffs I did in my summer practice.
First of all, we tried to sense cancer cells using FRET(flourescence resonance energy transfer). To do this we used GFP(Green Fluorescent Protein) and PPEs(para-poly phenylene ethylene). We made a complex using them because they are oppositely charged materials. Because of this electrostatic interaction there is an energy transfer process occurs between polymer and protein. According to this energy, we saw different fluorescence intensities for different concentrations of complex. After addition of cancerous cells to this complex, we saw changes in the fluorescence intensities of complex. Finally, this change indicates we are able to sense cancerous cells using FRET application. As a result, we can identify cancerous cells(without any further knowledge about cells) earlier to save people from cancers.

Secondly, I went to the NY city. It is an amazing city where you can find anything you can imagine. I spent two days in this city but that's not enough to enjoy that city. If I will go to NY again, I will definitely stay more than two days. At least one week I will stay in NY.

Finally, I am back at home. But I do really miss being in USA. Hopefully, I can go to USA next year again.

You can't fire me, I'm drunk!

LIMA (Reuters) – Peru's top court has ruled that workers cannot be fired for being drunk on the job, a decision that was criticized by the government on Wednesday for setting a dangerous precedent.
The Constitutional Tribunal ordered that Pablo Cayo be given his job back as a janitor for the municipality of Chorrillos, which fired him for being intoxicated at work.
The firing was excessive because even though Cayo was drunk, he did not offend or hurt anybody, Fernando Calle, one of the justices, said on Wednesday.
Calle said the court would not revise its decision, despite complaints from the government.
"It's not a good idea to relax rules at workplaces," said Labor Minister Jorge Villasante.
Celso Becerra, the administrative chief of Chorrillos, a suburb of Lima, denounced the ruling.
"We've fired four workers for showing up drunk, and two of them were drivers," he said. "How can we allow a drunk to work who might run somebody over?"

Light Pole(uyarı lambası kolonu)

I am taking this news from another website and it is funny and weird.

Indiana boy licks light pole, gets stuck

In a scene straight out of the movie "A Christmas Story," a 10-year-old Indiana boy got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole.
Hammond police say the unidentified fourth-grader was able to tell them that a friend dared him to lick the pole Wednesday night. Temperatures in the Chicago suburb were around 10 degrees at the time.
By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was able to yank his tongue off the frozen pole.
Police say ambulance personnel explained to the boy's mother how to care for his bleeding tongue.
The 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond, the hometown of author Jean Shepherd.

Schrödinger's Cat

I don't know if you are watching the big bang theory series but in one of its episodes there was a thought experiment about a cat in a box which is Schrödinger's cat experiment.

A brief explanation of the experiment:

In 1935, Erwin Schrödinger,in an attempt to explain the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics,he proposed an experiment where a cat is placed in a box with a sealed vial of poison that will break open at a random time.Now, since no one knows when or if the poison has been released,until the box is opened,the cat can be thought of as both alive and dead.

The point I am trying to reach, if we want to explain a relationship, it can be based on this principle. To understand somebody's character or the view about a relation,the experiment is a good connection between a social life and the science life.

Also,by this experiment, I can say that the geeks can not be as bad as you thought when you think about them. Geeks may know too much knowledge about science but it does not mean that they don't know how to behave in a relationship.

I hope this knowledge can change your view about the simple things in the life.
